KUALA LUMPUR: Profit taking on banking and PETRONAS-linked counters weighed on the FBM KLCI.
At 5pm, the benchmark index closed down 10.12 points, or 0.68% to 1,487.84.
Market breadth turned negative as losers overpowered the gainers on a ratio of 450-to-351 stocks. Traded volumes stood at 2.64 billion valued at RM1.74bil.
In today’s session, 13 of the KLCI-component stocks closed lower while 14 ounters chalked up gains.
PETRONAS Dagangan fell 40 sen to RM21.64, PETRONAS Chemicals lost 18 sen to RM8.71, Hong Leong Financial Group eased 14 sen to RM19.28 and Press Metal declined 10 sen to RM4.79.,
Maybank fell seven sen to RM8.92, Public Bank eased 10 sen to RM4.52, CIMB slid two sen to RM5.45, Hong Leong Bank lost 12 sen to RM20.94 and RHB Bank declined four sen to RM5.75.
On the broader market, United Plantations fell 30 sen to RM15, Genting Plantations eased 16 sen to RM6.40, Heineken lost 16 sen and Shangri-La Hotels declined 16 sen to RM3.44.
Among the gainers, Nestle added 30 sen to RM131.30, Tenaga rose 17 sen to RM8.95 and Ayer gained 15 sen to RM6.45.
Meanwhile, regional markets closed broadly higher. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng closed down 0.18% to settle at 19,326.86, while China’s Shanghai Composite was up a marginal 0.0% to 3,263.80. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.25% to 28,614.63 and South Korea’s Kospi added 2.74% to 2,449.54.
